ELIZABETH CITY, NC --The Fayetteville State Broncos were not able to score a run against Virginia State pitcher sophomore Alaijah Pratt on Thursday despite recording five hits and were shut out 5-0 by the Trojans. Virginia State improves to 2-10 overall and 2-0 in conference play with the victory.
Freshman Hannah Mills (1-2 overall) started and took the loss in the circle for Fayetteville State (5-14, 0-2 CIAA).
Offensively, the Broncos were led by senior Angel Johnson, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fayetteville State managed zero chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position. The Broncos last got a runner on third in the seventh, when senior Braynka Brown made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.
