Johnson collects 4 hits in Fayetteville State's 14-3 win against Allen

FAYETTEVILLE, NC --Senior Angel Johnson racked up four hits to help propel the Fayetteville State Broncos past the Allen (1-22 overall) Yellow Jackets 14-3 on Friday.

Freshman Jameyah Mars (2-1) started in the circle and picked up the win for Fayetteville State (4-12 overall). The right-hander went five innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on six hits, allowing one walk and striking out six.

In addition to her four hits, Johnson had a home run and three RBI to lead the Broncos. Freshman Treja Patterson put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Sophomore Olivia Jackson also helped out for Fayetteville State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a triple, a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Broncos got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Fayetteville State's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a two-run double off the bat of sophomore Morgan Jackson.

The Yellow Jackets then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 6-1 until the Broncos expanded their advantage in the third. The Fayetteville State offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a one-run double off the bat of Patterson, which brought the score to 11-1 in favor of the Broncos.

Fayetteville State held Allen scoreless before building their lead to 14-1 the following inning. The Broncos added three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-run homer from Johnson. Allen put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Fayetteville State still coasted to the 14-3 win.
