GAME 2 | Fayetteville State 9, Allen 1
FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- Freshman DeMya Brown racked up four hits to help power the Fayetteville State Broncos past the Allen Yellow Jackets 9-1 on Friday. Brown hit a two-run walk-off single to end the game in the bottom of the fifth.
Junior BreAnna Steele (2-4) got the win for Fayetteville State (5-12 overall). The southpaw went five innings, giving up one run on two hits, allowing one walk and striking out six.
In addition to her four hits, Brown had two doubles and four RBI to lead the Broncos. Freshman Angelica Locklear put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Steele also helped out for Fayetteville State, putting together one hit in one trip to the plate while adding a double, two walks and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Broncos first put runs on the board in the second inning. Fayetteville State got an RBI single from sophomore Morgan Jackson, scoring sophomore Olivia Jackson from third base.
The game remained tied until the very next inning, when the Broncos got going again on offense. Fayetteville State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Locklear, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Broncos.
Fayetteville State kept Allen (1-23 overall) without a run before building their lead to 7-1 the following inning. The Broncos bats heated up in the inning, scoring five runs, including a two-run home run off the bat of Locklear and a two-run double from Brown.
Fayetteville State held the Yellow Jackets scoreless before their offense got things rolling the next inning. The Broncos added two runs when a single from Brown scored Steele and senior Angel Johnson, bringing the score to 9-1 in favor of Fayetteville State. The score remained 9-1 for the rest of the game, as the Broncos coasted to the win.
