Hartsville, SC (Saleeby-Stokes Softball Field) -- Tanika Powell went 2-for-3 for Fayetteville State in an 11-2 loss to the Coker Cobras on Thursday, February 9th, in the Broncos season-opener in Hartsville, South Carolina.
BreAna Steele (0-1) started and took the loss in the circle for Fayetteville State (0-1 overall). She pitched 2.2 innings, giving up eight hits and six earned runs. Steele threw one strike out during 16 batters faced. Offensively, the Broncos were paced by Powell, who went 2-for-3 on the day and had a stolen base.
The Broncos got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Fayetteville State managed to push across two runs in the inning. The Broncos were unable to hold the lead, as Coker scored 11 times over the remaining four innings to grab the 11-2 win.
Delaney Eaves went 3-for-3 fot the Cobras and scored three runs and two RBIs. A total of ten batters collected hits for the win. Eaves and Cameron Jackson hit doubles while Chloe Pelham hit a triple. Caitlyn Wray hit the only homer of the game.
