ORANGEBURG, SC --The Fayetteville State Broncos struggled on Saturday, falling to the Benedict Tigers 6-1 despite the efforts of senior Tanika Powell, who went 1-for-2 with a triple.
Senior Braynka Brown got the ball to start as pitcher for Fayetteville State (0-3 overall) and took the loss.
Powell led the way offensively for the Broncos, going 1-for-2 in the ballgame with a triple and two walks. Sophomore Olivia Jackson provided a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-3 with a double. Freshman Angelica Locklear also helped out, going 1-for-2 for Fayetteville State with a double and a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Broncos were trailing 2-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Powell came across to score the lone run of the inning for Fayetteville State and get them on the board. The Broncos were unable to get any closer, as Benedict added four runs to their tally on the way to a 6-1 final.
