Allendale, MI (May 27, 2022) - Fayetteville State's M'Smyra "Shea" Seward is the first Bronco in the three-year history of the Outdoor Track and Field program to capture the podium in the long jump at the Grand Valley State Track and Field Stadium for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Sprinter Mya Johnson will advance to the final 400-meter hurdle race with a preliminary qualifying time of 59.36 seconds, securing the fifth slot.
Junior jumper Seward captured second place with a hop-skip and jump of 6.22 meters (20' 5"). Since Seward has transitioned out of softball season, where she played third base, she has been remarkable on the track field in both jumps and relays. The 6.13m jump at the Mount Olive First Chance Meet ranks Shea 11th overall and best in the Atlantic Region. During the Outdoor Championships, Shea earned gold and silver medals in the long jump and triple jump, respectively.
Following a rain delay at the Grand Valley State Track and Field Stadium, Johnson captured third place in the third heat with 59.36 seconds, securing the fifth overall slot to advance to the final 400-meter hurdle race. Johnson will compete in lane two beginning at 4:20 EDT.
The finals will be available for streaming at DII Outdoor Track & Field: Day Two - DII Women's Track & Field (O) - May 27th, 2022 | NCAA.com
