FAYETTEVILLE, NC --Sophomore BreAnna Steele was dealing on Wednesday, hurling a three-hit shutout to lead the Fayetteville State Broncos over the Livingstone Blue Bears 18-0.
Steele (6-7) went the distance for Fayetteville State (11-12, 6-1), giving up three hits, walking one and striking out eight.
Sophomore Kyra Mitchell led the way offensively for the Broncos, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run, a walk and three RBI. Freshman Laniyah Bethea put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Senior Angel Johnson also helped out, going 1-for-3 for Fayetteville State with a double and three RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Broncos took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Fayetteville State's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a one-run single off the bat of senior Mikayla Jackson.
The Broncos then tacked on runs in the second, third, and fourth innings, with their biggest output coming in the third when they scored six times. The big hit in that inning was a two-run single off the bat of Bethea.
