Fayetteville State 9, Bowie State 6
RALEIGH, NC -- Brianna Crosby collected four RBIs with a grand slam homerun to help propel the Fayetteville State Broncos over the Bowie State Bulldogs 9-6 on Saturday.
Braynka Brown (4-5) started in the circle and picked up the win for Fayetteville State (7-12, 2-1). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up six runs, four earned, on 10 hits, allowing no walks and striking out five.
Crosby went 3-for-3 with a home run and a walk in addition to her four RBIs for the Broncos. Grace Vincent furnished a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Mikayla Jackson also chipped in for Fayetteville State, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Broncos were trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Fayetteville State scored twice in the inning, including one on a solo shot from Vincent.
The Bulldogs broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the fifth inning, when the Broncos got back on the scoreboard. The Fayetteville State offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Crosby, which brought the Broncos lead to 7-3.
Bowie State narrowed Fayetteville State's lead to 7-5 before the Broncos stretched the advantage to 9-5 in the seventh inning. Laniyah Bethea's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run output in the frame for the Broncos. Bowie State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Fayetteville State still held on for the 9-6 win.
