Fayetteville State 14, Lincoln (PA) 4
RALEIGH, NC -- Sierra Mitchell racked up four RBIs to help power the Fayetteville State Broncos past the Lincoln (PA) Lions 14-4 on Friday, March 25th at the CIAA Softball Round-up held at the Walnut Creek Complex.
Braynka Brown (3-5) got the win for Fayetteville State (6-12, 1-1 CIAA). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on five hits, allowing two walks and striking out five.
Sierra Mitchell went 2-for-4 with a walk in addition to her four RBIs for the Broncos. Grace Vincent put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 3-for-5 with a home run and an RBI. Kyra Mitchell also contributed for Fayetteville State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a walk and three RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Broncos were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Fayetteville State managed to push across two runs in the inning.
The Broncos lost the lead they built in the second, but got back on the board in the fifth trailing 3-2. Fayetteville State scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a Mitchell, which brought the score to 5-3 in favor of the Broncos.
Fayetteville State held Lincoln (PA) scoreless before expanding their lead to 9-3 the following inning. The Broncos bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a one-run single off the bat of Sierra Mitchell.
The Lions fought back, closing the gap to 9-4 until Fayetteville State added some insurance in the seventh. The Broncos scored five runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Mitchell, bringing the Fayetteville State advantage to 14-4. The score remained 14-4 for the rest of the game, as the Broncos coasted to the win.
