Snow Hill, NC – The Fayetteville State golf team returned to the links this past Monday and Tuesday to swing in the new season after finishing second at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Golf Championships this past season.
Hunter Oxendine led the Broncos to a fourth-place finish at the Cutter Creek Invitational hosted by Barton College. Hunter finished with a 154 (10-over) for a tied 20
th-place ranking as Fayetteville State accumulated a 631 (307, 324) score behind the winning host Barton (586; 294, 292), runner-up Averett (594; 295, 299), and third-place finisher Mount Olive (595; 294, 301). Oxendine had a 76 (+4) first round and a 78 (+6) second round.
Freshman Zack Martin had the lowest round of golf for the Broncos with a day-one 73 (one-over). He finished the tournament tied for 26
th with an 85 scorecard on the second round for a final score of 158 (+14).
Logan Sessoms trailed Martin by one stroke with a 159 (+15) finish with rounds of 79 (+7) and 80 (+8). He tied for 28
th.
Sean Burke finished 35
th overall with a 166 (79, 87) score and
Brandon Jones ranked 36
th with a card of 168 (87, 81).
Fayetteville State will travel to Kiawah Island, South Carolina on September 17
th and 18
th to compete in the USC Aiken Kiawah Island Invitational at the Osprey Point Golf Club.
