Broncos Continue Upward Trend, Finish Eighth at Edgell Battle at Brunswick

CALABASH, N.C. — March 14, 2026 — Fayetteville State Golf closed out its week at the Larry and Wally Edgell Battle at Brunswick with its strongest performance of the tournament Saturday, climbing to an eighth-place finish and showcasing promising depth as the spring season begins.

Playing on the Dogwood and Azalea rotations at Brunswick Plantation & Golf Resort, the Broncos posted rounds of 309, 301, and a final-day 296 to finish at 42-over par in a competitive NCAA Division II field. Charleston (W.Va.) won the team title at 26-over, followed by Bluefield State's A and B teams and California (Pa.).

For Fayetteville State, Saturday's final round told the broader story. Three Broncos — Sutton Dreier, Allan Terrazas, and Andrew McCarver — all carded even‑par 72s, marking the team's best collective round of the tournament and signaling strong momentum heading into the latter stretch of March.

Dreier turned in the Broncos' top finish of the week, placing tied for fourth at 2-over par. The sophomore closed with his most balanced round of the tournament, posting a front‑nine 38 before settling in on the back nine with a 34 that included steady par saves and sharp iron play. Across all 54 holes, Dreier showcased the consistency that has become his trademark, finishing as FSU's leader in scoring average this spring.

Terrazas nearly matched him stroke for stroke, finishing seventh at 5-over after an equally composed final‑round 72. His opening nine was among the team's best all week — a clean 34 highlighted by precise approaches on holes 2 and 8 and a confident par save on the long par‑5 fifth. Terrazas stayed within the top 10 for most of the tournament and delivered his second‑straight top‑10 finish dating back to the fall slate.

McCarver delivered the biggest final‑day jump for the Broncos, firing his tournament‑best 72 to climb into 32nd place at 13-over par. After hovering above par throughout the opening nine, he caught fire on the back nine with a 35 that included back‑to‑back birdies on holes 14 and 15. His steady ball‑striking helped FSU post its lowest team round of the week.

Jack McCarthy closed the event in 62nd place at 23-over, carding an 80 in the final round that featured a birdie on the par‑4 12th. Donald Barnett rounded out the team scoring in 72nd place at 26-over, finishing with an 83 that included a highlight birdie on the par‑3 12th.

The Broncos also benefited from quality individual performances.

Patricio Ramirez, playing as an individual, posted one of the team's strongest overall tournaments with a 13th‑place finish at 7-over par after closing with a 73. Ramirez's final round included matching 36–37 splits, and he remained within the top 20 throughout the week. Fellow individual Landon Cabingas produced one of the better finishes of his young season, tying for 35th place at 14-over thanks to a 2-over 74 that featured a clean 35 on the back nine.

Fayetteville State's eighth‑place finish placed the Broncos ahead of seven programs, including West Liberty, UMass Amherst, and Virginia Union, and just one shot behind Wheeling for seventh. Fairmont State, the tournament host, finished sixth.

With three players turning in par‑or‑better rounds on Saturday and a steady decline in the team score each day, head coach Zane Lewis' squad leaves Calabash trending in the right direction.
