Broncos Open CIAA Southern Division Tournament in Third After Two Rounds at Quail Ridge

SANFORD, N.C. – Fayetteville State opened play Monday at the CIAA Southern Division Golf Tournament with a strong start on its home course, sitting in third place after two rounds at Quail Ridge Golf Course on day one of the two-day event.

The Broncos posted a team score of 606 after rounds of 294 and 312, finishing the day behind Bluefield State (600) and Winston-Salem State (601). Bluefield State leads the field following consistent rounds of 299 and 301, while Winston-Salem State stayed in contention with scores of 294 and 307.

Fayetteville State began the tournament on a high note, closing round one tied for first place with Winston-Salem State after both teams carded a 294. The opening round featured steady play across the lineup, highlighted by junior Sutton Dreier, who turned in one of the best individual rounds of the day. Dreier fired a 2-under-par 70, placing him third on the individual leaderboard after round one. His round included four birdies and set the tone for the Broncos as they took advantage of familiar course conditions.

Round two proved more challenging as conditions tightened and scores rose across the field. Fayetteville State slipped to third place after posting a 312 in the afternoon session, but Dreier remained the team's top performer. He followed his opening round with a 5-over-par 77, collecting two birdies and maintaining his position as the Broncos' leader through 36 holes.

With one round remaining, Fayetteville State remains firmly in contention as the Southern Division Tournament continues at Quail Ridge. The Broncos will look to regroup and capitalize on their home-course knowledge on Tuesday as divisional points and championship positioning remain on the line.
