Salisbury, NC - The Fayetteville State University women's tennis team defeated Livingstone College 5-2 on Tuesday, March 24th at the courts on Livingstone's campus. FSU breaks into the win column to improve to 1-5 overall and in the conference.
Senior Samantha Ledbetter (Fayetteville, NC) and junior Laura Worriax (Mamers, NC) edged Sarah Haynes and Shondra Redfren 9-7 in the number one doubles flight. Sophomore duo of Selena Cox (Wilmington, NC) and Vanaysha Graham (Tabor City, NC) followed up an 8-3 victory in number two doubles against Tenesha Dickerson and Aaliyah Tucker.
Redfren stole both sets (6-0, 6-1) from Ledbetter in number one singles spot. Shontell McMillan topped freshman Octavia Gilmore (Marston, NC) 6-4 in both sets in number five singles. Cox, Graham, and Worriax secured victories in the second, third, and fourth singles positions, respectively.
Cox beat Dickerson (7-5, 6-1), Graham defeated Haynes (6-3, 6-2), and Worriax overwhelmed Tucker 6-0 in both sets.
Fayetteville State will travel to Winston-Salem, NC to face Winston-Salem State University on Thursday, March 26th. First serve is slated for 1:00 p.m. at the WSSU Tennis Complex.
