Final Stats
FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Fayetteville State fell, 9-0, to Johnson C. Smith (12-10, 10-2 CIAA), despite winning several games. The Lady Broncos (2-9 overall, 1-6 CIAA) showed improvement, winning a total of 10 games -- two more than in their first meeting with the Golden Bulls. FSU has won eight or more games in each of its last three matches.
In singles play, the Broncos' No. 1, Shontana Donegan (Brooklyn, NY) won one game in the first set and two games in the second set before dropping the match to JCSU's Samantha Barnes (6-1, 6-2). FSU's No. 2, Amber Mitchell (Red Springs, NC) also won two games in the first set but lost the match (6-2, 6-0).
Tiane Ellis (Fayetteville, NC), the Broncos' No. 3, fought hard to win two first-set games before dropping the match to the Golden Bulls' Margaret Jones (6-2, 6-0). FSU's No. 5 Schanelle Ebanks (Irvington, NJ) was defeated 6-2, 6-0 by JCSU's Camille Allen while Tyra Breaux got the best of Danielle Boone (Hallsboro, NC) 6-0, 6-0.
JCSU swept FSU in doubles play with Hargett and Barnes topping Kristy Mitchell and Donegan 8-1, Jones and Rolanda Sue besting Amber Mitchell and Tiane Ellis 8-1 and Allen and Breaux downing Jensine McMillan and Ebanks 8-0.
FSU will host St. Augustine's for a doubleheader on Saturday. The first match is set to begin at Noon.
