NIEVES CIAA PLAYER OF THE YEAR AGAIN

Petersburg, VA - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Men's and Women's Tennis Coaches Associations released the 2008 All-Conference Teams and the Rookies and Players of the Year at the Men's and Women's Tennis Social on Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore Ines Nieves was named the CIAA Women's Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. Nieves finished this season with an overall record of 16-5 and 13-0 in the CIAA at the number one singles position. The Fayetteville, NC native is currently the top seed at the number one position in the women's singles competition at the 2008 CIAA Tennis Championship.

In addition to player of the year honors, Nieves was selected to the 2008 CIAA Women's All-Conference Team. Joining her are teammates LeJacquelyn Artis and Constance Lee. Artis and Lee are both seniors from Greenville, NC. Artis plays at the number three singles position and the number one doubles position with Nieves.

Artis finished the regular season 13-5 overall and 9-1 in the CIAA.

Lee competes at the number two singles and doubles position. She concluded the regular season with an overall record of 15-6 and 12-1 in the conference. All three student-athletes have advanced to the semifinals at their respective positions in the CIAA Tennis Championships currently being played on the campus of Virginia State University.

Singles competition will resume on Friday, April 18th at 9 am.
