Fayetteville, NC - The Fayetteville State University women's tennis team opened their season Saturday, February 9th against the Monarchs of Methodist University.
Unfortunately, the Lady Broncos started off the season sluggish losing to Methodist 9-0 on the tennis courts at Capel Arena. Other than sophomore Ines Nieves winning the second set in her singles match against Tiffany Tucker (1-6, 6-2, 3-6), FSU was swept in both singles and doubles competition.
However, there should be no need to panic, the Lady Broncos started off the 2007 season in the exact same fashion before shaking off the rust and eventually capturing the CIAA Championship.
When asked about the team's performance against Methodist; 2007 CIAA Women's Tennis Coach of the Year Elorine Hill stated, "We just need to improve our endurance. The team started off good, but ran out of gas."
The Lady Broncos look to rebound quickly when the Falcons of Pfieffer University come to town on Friday, February 15th. Matches are scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm on the tennis courts at Capel Arena.
