Faith Kiplimo Caps Breakout Indoor Season with Historic Performances and NCAA Qualification

Faith Kiplimo's rise during the indoor track and field season was no coincidence—it was the continuation of a trajectory that began in the fall and accelerated into one of the most decorated indoor campaigns in recent Fayetteville State history.

A sophomore nursing major from Eldoret, Kenya, Kiplimo carried the momentum from an outstanding cross country season straight onto the track, quickly establishing herself as one of the CIAA's premier distance athletes and a national contender at the Division II level.

Her breakthrough moment came early in the indoor slate at the JDL Early Bird Meet, where Kiplimo delivered a statement performance in the mile. She crossed the line in 4:51.07, a personal best that earned her a second‑place finish, shattered the Fayetteville State school record, and met the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard. The mark vaulted her to No. 1 in the Atlantic Region and No. 5 nationally in Division II, firmly placing Fayetteville State among the nation's elite programs in women's distance events. That performance earned Kiplimo her first CIAA Track Athlete of the Week honor in Week 2.

Kiplimo continued to prove her versatility and composure against elite competition later in the season. In Week 5, she stepped onto a Division I‑heavy stage in the 800 meters, finishing third overall with a time of 2:16.14. The performance ranked tenth among HBCU athletes, 29th nationally in Division II, and moved her into first place in the CIAA in the event. The effort earned her a second CIAA Track Athlete of the Week award and underscored her ability to excel across multiple distances.

The peak of Kiplimo's indoor campaign came at the CIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on February 15–16, 2026, where she delivered one of the most dominant championship performances in conference history. Kiplimo won every event she competed in, individually or as part of a relay, capturing four first‑place finishes. She claimed the 800 meters (2:14.95), the mile (5:03.46), and the 3000 meters (10:30.90), while also anchoring the distance medley relay to victory in 12:37.60. Her commanding presence across the meet earned her both CIAA Track & Field Championship MVP and CIAA Female Track Athlete of the Year honors.

Still chasing perfection, Kiplimo closed the regular season with another personal best at the ASICS Last Chance Invitational on February 21, 2026. Her time of 2:12.72 in the 800 meters marked a career-best.

On the national stage, Kiplimo represented Fayetteville State with poise and confidence. Competing in the mile at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships on March 13–14, 2026, she clocked 4:54.31 to finish 12th overall, closing an indoor season defined by consistency, range, and historic accomplishment.

Kiplimo completed the indoor season ranked No. 1 in the Atlantic Region in both the 800 meters and the mile, a reflection of her range, durability, and dominance across multiple events.

From record‑breaking performances and weekly conference honors to championship dominance and NCAA qualification, Faith Kiplimo's indoor season reflected not just talent, but discipline and resilience. As she balances the demands of a rigorous nursing curriculum with elite athletic performance, Kiplimo has firmly established herself as a cornerstone of Fayetteville State's track and field program—and one of the CIAA's brightest stars heading into the outdoor season.
