RALEIGH, NC -- Fayetteville State continued its dominant February form on Saturday afternoon, powering past Shaw 75–50 at Spaulding Gymnasium. With the win, the Broncos improved to 19–4 overall and 13–3 in the CIAA, while Shaw dropped to 8–16 and 6–11 in league play.
Nyah Wilkins anchored the afternoon with a commanding performance, posting a 19‑point, 10‑rebound double‑double on 7-of-10 shooting. Off the bench, Carmon delivered one of her most efficient outings of the season, scoring 11 points with six rebounds, including four on the offensive glass. Her effort helped generate 20 offensive boards for the Broncos, which led to 21 second‑chance points. Amina Miles added 10 points and four rebounds, giving FSU three players in double figures.
From the opening tip, the Broncos set a tone that would never waver. FSU exploded out to a 12–0 run—capped by a Kelis Carmon bucket—and never looked back, building a 20–9 lead after the first quarter. The Broncos' early toughness inside was evident as they poured in 12 points in the paint during the opening period and dictated the pace on both ends.
By halftime, Fayetteville State had stretched its advantage to 37–17 thanks to a disruptive defensive effort that forced seven second‑quarter turnovers and turned them into points. The pressure only intensified after the break. A 9–0 burst midway through the third quarter, highlighted by a finishing move from Taleah Stephens, pushed the lead to 48–21. Shaw attempted to cut into the deficit late in the period, but the Broncos still controlled a 54–31 cushion heading into the fourth.
The Broncos' depth and tempo closed the door in the final quarter. Fayetteville State used another 6–0 run—finished off by a Zaria Gool layup—to extend the margin to 66–39 with just over three minutes left. From there, the Broncos coasted to the finish, sealing a convincing 75–50 road win.
Defensively, Fayetteville State was sharp and disciplined. The Broncos forced 20 Shaw turnovers while committing just 10 themselves, converting those takeaways into 23 points. Nevaeh Colon led the way with two steals as FSU held the Bears to 26.6 percent shooting from the floor.
Shaw was led by Mikyah Finley's 13 points and D'Ayzha Atkinson's 12‑point, 10‑rebound performance, but the Bears struggled to find consistent offense until the final minutes. Even then, Fayetteville State's lead proved insurmountable.
With a 46–45 edge on the glass, a 42–12 advantage in points in the paint, and 30 points from its bench, the Broncos displayed the balance, physicality, and execution that have defined their strong conference campaign.
Fayetteville State now turns its attention to the postseason. The Broncos will head to Baltimore, Maryland for the CIAA Tournament, which begins Tuesday, Feb. 24. Tournament brackets will be announced by the CIAA later today once all conference games have concluded.
