SPARTANBURG, SC -- Amihan Johnson posted 11 kills on a blistering .733 hitting percentage to help power Fayetteville State to a 3-1 victory (25-18, 20-25, 25-8, 25-20) over Erskine College on Friday afternoon at the Valkyries Invitational, hosted at Tom & Tracy Hannah Gymnasium.
The win improves the Broncos to 3-1 on the season.
Fayetteville State was led by a dominant performance from Symone Morris, who recorded a double-double with a match-high 18 kills and 10 digs. Chiara Vittoni added 15 kills on a .355 clip, while Jasmine Culp anchored the defense with a match-best 20 digs. Johnson also contributed four blocks to go along with her efficient offensive outing.
Setter Giovanna Teixeira directed the offense with 46 assists and added 11 digs. The Broncos had three players in double figures in kills and four in double-digit digs. Morris also led all players with three service aces, and the team totaled seven aces overall.
Erskine (1-5) was led by Ella Dietrich with nine kills on a .350 hitting percentage, while Becca Yohe added nine kills and six digs. Setter Meghan DeWalt finished with 26 assists and six digs. Kimmy Stiltner contributed five kills on a .714 clip in limited action, and Mahayla Law led the Flying Fleet with 13 digs.
Fayetteville State took the opening set 25-18 after gaining control early and never looking back. Erskine responded in the second, taking advantage of early momentum to even the match with a 25-20 win. The Broncos bounced back in dominant fashion in the third, cruising to a 25-8 win behind five service aces and a 17-point margin. In the fourth, FSU never trailed, using 19 kills to close out the match 25-20.
