RALEIGH, NC -- The Fayetteville State Broncos secured a 4-2 victory against the Elizabeth City State Vikings on Saturday, starting strong with a 1-0 lead in the first inning and maintaining their advantage throughout the game. Freshman Tamarah Lowery, who started in the circle, earned the win for Fayetteville State, pitching seven innings and allowing two earned runs on seven hits, with no walks and six strikeouts.
Freshman Angelica Locklear led the Broncos offensively, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Morgan Jackson also had a standout performance, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Aniya Caldwell contributed with a hit, a walk, and an RBI.
The Broncos began their scoring in the first inning with an RBI single from Caldwell, bringing home Cheyenne Payne. In the second inning, Locklear hit a leadoff home run, extending the lead to 2-0. Elizabeth City State managed to narrow the gap to 2-1, but Fayetteville State responded in the fourth inning with another RBI single from Locklear, making it 3-1. The Broncos added another run in the fifth inning with an RBI single from Jackson, increasing their lead to 4-1. Although the Vikings scored once more, the Broncos held on for the 4-2 win.
