FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville State dominated Shaw with a 70-42 victory on Tuesday night at Capel Arena. The Broncos improved to 13-7 overall and 8-3 in the CIAA, while the Bears fell to 8-14 and 5-7 in conference play.
Fayetteville State took control early, leading 14-6 after the first quarter and extending their advantage to 30-18 by halftime. The Broncos continued to pull away in the second half, outscoring Shaw 19-9 in the third quarter and 21-15 in the fourth.
Keayna McLaughlin led the Broncos with 12 points, including 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, and added five rebounds and four assists.
Talia Trotter contributed 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists, while
Daziyahna Wilson also scored 11 points and added three assists.
Morgan Graham had a game-high 12 rebounds, along with 7 points, five assists, and three steals.
KaNyah O'Neal came off the bench to score 13 points, including 3 three-pointers and grabbed four rebounds.
Shaw struggled offensively, shooting just 28% from the field. D'Ayzha Akinson and Zaniyyah Ross-Barnes each scored 14 points for the Bears, but the team was hampered by 25 turnovers.
FSU continues to lead the CIAA Southern Division at 5-1 while the Bears fall to 2-4. The Broncos will travel to Johnson C. Smith in Charlotte, NC on Thursday, February 6th for a 5:30 pm matchup in the Brayboy Gymnasium.
