Broncos Take Down Shaw 3-1 After Dropping First Set

FAYETTEVILLE, NC – Fayetteville State (18-4, 14-1 CIAA) rallied from a first-set deficit to defeat Shaw (11-10, 9-6 CIAA) in four sets (18-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-22) on Senior Night at Capel Arena, closing out their home schedule with a strong conference win.Monday night at Capel Arena, securing a key conference win in their final home match of the regular season.

Shaw opened the night with a dominant first set, led by Leana Gould's 11 kills, MaKayla Brown and Sydni Hunter with eight each, and three service aces from Journey Dickson. Justus Alexander paced the Lady Bears with 26 assists and 13 digs, while Kalia Morris added 14 digs. After dropping the opening frame, the Broncos responded with poise and power, winning three straight sets to seal the victory. 

Fayetteville State regrouped in Set 2, with Symone Morris and Ramona Pulu leading the charge. Morris finished with a match-high 20 kills, while Pulu added 14 and Chantiya Johnson chipped in seven. Jasmine Culp, Amihan Johnson, and Pulu each recorded a service ace. Culp also led the Broncos in digs with 17, followed by Teixeira with nine and Morris with seven. Milana Cvetkovski anchored the defense at the net with three blocks, while Johnson and Courtlynn Edwards each added one. Teixeira was instrumental in setting the pace, dishing out 36 assists.

Set 3 saw the Broncos take control early and maintain their lead, while Set 4 featured a comeback effort after Shaw jumped ahead 5-0. FSU responded with a balanced attack and clutch plays down the stretch, including a match-sealing kill from Morris and a Shaw service error to close out the final set.

Fayetteville State will wrap up its regular season on Monday, November 10 at 6 p.m. when the Broncos travel to Winston-Salem, NC, to face Winston-Salem State. The CIAA Volleyball Championship will follow, with the quarterfinals, semifinals, and championship match scheduled for November 21–23 at Bowie State University in Bowie, MD.
