ORANGEBURG, SC -- Fayetteville State volleyball rolled to a straight-set victory over Claflin University on Thursday evening, earning a 3-0 sweep (25-13, 25-18, 25-15) at Tullis Arena in CIAA action.
The win improves the Broncos to 9-4 overall and 5-1 in conference play, while the Panthers fall to 1-13 and 1-5 in the CIAA.
Senior outside hitter Symone Morris led the Broncos with a match-high eight kills and added 15 digs to pace both sides defensively. Fayetteville State had three players reach double figures in digs, including Jasmine Culp with 14 and Tione Freeman with 11.
Setter Giovanna Teixeira orchestrated the offense with a match-best 21 assists, helping the Broncos hit .268 as a team. Chiara Vittoni added seven kills on a .400 hitting percentage, and Chantiya Johnson was efficient with six kills on 10 swings (.600).
Fayetteville State never trailed in the first two sets and used early leads in each frame to control the tempo. The Broncos opened the match with a 15-kill performance in the first set and built a 12-point margin to close it out. In the second, they led by as many as seven before sealing the 25-18 win. The third set saw FSU jump ahead 14-4 and cruise to the finish.
Destiny Washington led the team with one service ace, while the Broncos totaled five aces and three solo blocks in the match.
Claflin was led by Aryanna Connell's six kills and Siri Davis' eight assists.
The Broncos will host Johnson C. Smith at Capel Arena on Monday, October 13th, at 6 pm.
