Fayetteville State Volleyball Travels to Shaw for CIAA Championship Rematch

GAME PREVIEW - FAYETTEVILLE STATE BRONCOS vs SHAW BEARS

Fayetteville State volleyball hits the road Monday evening for a pivotal Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) match-up against Shaw University. First serve is set for 6 p.m. at C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium on the campus of Shaw.

The contest marks the first meeting between the two programs since the 2024 CIAA Championship match, where Shaw swept Fayetteville State 3–0 to claim the conference title. Both teams enter the match-up with identical 4–1 records in the Southern Division, but Fayetteville State currently holds the top spot in the standings with a 10–1 conference record. Shaw sits close behind at 7–4 in CIAA play.

Fayetteville State boasts a balanced offensive attack led by outside hitters Symone Morris and Chiara Vittoni, who have combined for over 400 kills this season. Morris averages 3.14 kills per set, while Vittoni contributes 3.26 kills per set.

Setter Giovanna Teixeira orchestrates the offense with 482 assists (7.53 per set) and adds 17 blocks and 142 digs. Middle blocker Amihan Johnson has been a standout at the net, with 94 kills and leading the team with 34 total blocks.

Defensively, the Broncos average 14.69 digs per set, led by Jasmine Culp with 256 digs (4.00 per set). Fayetteville State also averages 1.83 blocks per set, with Chantiya Johnson contributing a team-high 50 total blocks.

Shaw counters with a powerful front line led by Makayla Brown, who has tallied 174 kills and averages 2.72 kills per set. Sydni Hunter and Khamare Steppe add depth to the attack, combining for over 200 kills. Setter Kya Moore leads the Bears with 386 assists and a team-high 30 service aces.

On defense, Shaw averages 12.52 digs per set and 1.39 blocks per set. Libero Kalia Morris anchors the back row with 231 digs, while Hunter and Steppe have combined for 50 total blocks.
