CE GAINES CENTER, Winston-Salem, NC -- The Fayetteville State Broncos (11-6, 6-2 CIAA) secured a commanding 69-46 victory over the Winston-Salem State Rams (3-12, 0-7 CIAA) on the road. The Broncos' defense was stellar, holding the Rams to just 6.2% from beyond the arc (1-for-16).
Talia Trotter led the Broncos with 20 points and 2 steals, while Keayna McLaughlin added 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. Daziyahna Wilson contributed 6 points and 5 steals, and Ashara Hayes grabbed a game-high 7 rebounds. For the Rams, Alana Biosse scored 15 points and pulled down 5 rebounds, Jakaiya Mack had 10 points and 4 rebounds, and Tolisha Walker also added 10 points and 2 rebounds.
The Broncos forced 29 turnovers and converted them into 20 points. Fayetteville State jumped out to a 14-6 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. A strong second quarter saw the Broncos extend their lead to 24-16 at halftime. Fayetteville State went on a 24-0 run in the third quarter, pushing their lead to 48-16. The Broncos maintained their dominance in the fourth quarter, sealing the win.
Coach Tyreece Brown commented, "This is always a tough environment to play in, but the team really began to play like themselves in the third quarter when they went on the 24-0 run."
The women will return home to Capel Arena on Thursday, January 23rd as they look to continue their win streak against Livingstone College at 5:30 PM.
