Tyreece Brown, a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, enters his fourth season as head coach of the Fayetteville State University women's basketball program after establishing himself as one of the premier coaches in NCAA Division II and the CIAA. A 2008 Fayetteville State graduate and former Bronco student-athlete, Brown has guided the program through one of the most successful stretches in school history.Â
Since being elevated to interim head coach prior to the 2023-24 season, Brown has compiled a remarkable 71-17 overall record while leading the Broncos to three consecutive 20-win seasons, two CIAA Tournament Championships, and an NCAA Division II Sweet Sixteen appearance.Â
In his first season at the helm in 2023-24, Brown orchestrated a historic campaign as Fayetteville State finished 29-3 overall and 17-1 in CIAA play. The Broncos captured the CIAA Tournament Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional, where they reached the NCAA Sweet Sixteen for the first time in program history. The 29 victories established a new program record and marked one of the finest seasons in CIAA women's basketball history.
Brown followed that historic run with another championship season in 2024-25. Fayetteville State finished 21-8 overall and 13-3 in conference play while claiming a second consecutive CIAA Tournament title, the first back-to-back conference championships in program history. Under his leadership, the Broncos continued to establish themselves as a regional contender while maintaining one of the conference's most consistent winning cultures.Â
The success continued in 2025-26 as the Broncos posted another 20-win season, finishing 21-6 overall and 13-3 in CIAA competition while extending the program's run among the conference's elite programs.Â
Brown's coaching excellence has earned widespread recognition. He was named CIAA Coach of the Year in 2024, received Fayetteville State University's Employee of the Year honor in 2024, and was selected as the 2025 Clarence "Big House" Gaines College Basketball Coach of the Year by the National Sports Media Association.Â
Known for his defensive-minded philosophy, player development, and emphasis on accountability, Brown has helped develop some of the conference's top talent. Under his leadership, student-athletes have earned major conference honors, including CIAA Player of the Year, CIAA Tournament MVP, and CIAA Defensive Player of the Year accolades.Â
Brown's connection to Fayetteville State runs deep. As a student-athlete, he was a two-year starter for the Broncos and helped lead the program to the 2005 CIAA Championship Game. Following his playing career, he returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach in 2011 and spent more than a decade helping build the foundation of the program's success, including four CIAA Championship Game appearances and the 2020 CIAA Tournament Championship.Â
Brown earned a master's degree in Business with a concentration in Leadership from Liberty University in 2013. He and his wife, Kieauna, reside in Fayetteville with their two daughters.Â
