Davis, WV – The Fayetteville State golf program finished 11
th out of 15 teams at the Dr. Wally Edgell Invitational hosted by Davis & Elkins at Canaan Valley Resort in Davis West Virginia. The Broncos finished the three-round, 54-hole event one-over par (886; 289, 288, 288).
Freshman
Logan Atkins (Dunn, NC) led the effort, placing tied for 14
th with a six-under 210 scorecard. He had identical 69 cards on Monday with ten birdies over the two rounds and an eagle. Atkins shot an even-72 on the final day.
Fellow rookie
Donald Barnett (Antioch, IL) followed with an even 216 card and finished tied at 36
th. He opened with a 74 in the opening round and improved in the second with a 70 after five birdies. Barnett's only hole under par in the third round was an eagle on the third hole. He finished the final round with a 72.
Brandon Jones, a graduate student from Sanford, NC, finished tied at 54
th with a 219 score after rounds of 72, 78, and 69. He had a total of eight birdies over the 54 holes.
Jack McCarthy was tied at 81
st with 228 (74, 75, and 79) and
Juan Lopez at 88
th with 231 (82, 74, and 75).
Fayetteville State will complete its fall schedule at the River City Collegiate Classic in Richmond, Virginia at the Country Club of Virginia on October 23-24.
