Philadelphia, PA – The Fayetteville State Track & Field program would say that they are ready for the upcoming Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Outdoor Championship after competing in the Penn Relays Carnival.
Fayetteville State competed in six events at the annual carnival over the weekend.
M'Smrya Seward led all performances with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump after going 38 feet and 9 inches (11.81 meters). She achieved that distance on her second attempt in the preliminary round. The mark has her ranked 7
th in the Atlantic Region and 45
th in NCAA DII. Teammate
Tracy Idugboe finished 11
th at the meet with a mark of 37-6 (11.43m).
Tramoni Myles,
Queen Burnett,
Jessica McQueen, and
Teanna Bell passed the baton in the 4x100 meter relay to finish second in the third heat behind Rhode Island and 12
th overall with a time of 47.61 seconds.
The Broncos 4x400m squad of
Teanna Bell,
Jessica McQueen,
Sierrah Matthews, and
Queen Burnett finished 14
th out of 19 schools competing with a time of 3:59.04. FSU was fourth overall in the third heat behind UConn, Albany, and Georgia Tech. The three leaders qualified for Saturday's championship event. Bell and McQueen combined for a 1:57.25 800 meters that put the Broncos in second place going into the third leg. Matthews had a split of 1:01.96 and Burnett crossed the finish line with a 59.84 leg.
In the 4x200 Championship of America, Fayetteville State ranked 16
th overall after finishing fourth in the third heat behind South Florida, Southern Illinois, and Hampton. Bell and McQueen were joined by
Tramoni Myles and
Jayla Williams. The foursome ran a time of 1:43.98.
Queen Burnett also competed as an individual in he 100-meter dash. She finished third in the fourth heat in 12.14 seconds. Her time tied her 17
th overall.
The Broncos' Sprint Medley consisted of McQueen,
Abraonna Williams,
Holley Johnson, and
Nia Gibson. Their results have yet to be reported.
The CIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held at the Durham County Memorial Stadium on May 5-6. Fayetteville State shared the 2022 Outdoor title with Winston-Salem State. The Broncos' program claimed this season's cross-country and indoor championship titles.
