GAME 2 | Fayetteville State 10, Livingstone 2
FAYETTEVILLE, NC --It was a tough day for Livingstone pitchers, as the Fayetteville State Broncos put up 10 runs en route to a 10-2 win over the Blue Bears (1-12, 1-12 CIAA) on Friday.
Junior BreAnna Steele (3-5 overall) got the win for Fayetteville State (9-15, 4-3 CIAA). The left-hander went five innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out five.
Freshman Angelica Locklear led the way offensively for the Broncos, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a double and two RBI. Sophomore Olivia Jackson put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Freshman Treja Patterson also chipped in, going 2-for-3 for Fayetteville State with a double, a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Broncos first put runs on the board in the second inning. Steele drove in two runs for Fayetteville State with a single, that scored sophomore Morgan Jackson and freshman Izzabella Hembree.
The game remained tied until the very next inning, when the Broncos got going again on offense. Fayetteville State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Locklear, which brought the Broncos lead to 3-2.
Fayetteville State held Livingstone without a run before expanding their lead to 6-2 the following inning.
Fayetteville State kept the Blue Bears without a run before their offense got things rolling the next inning. The Broncos scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of sophomore Olivia Jackson, bringing the Fayetteville State advantage to 10-2. The score remained 10-2 for the rest of the game, as the Broncos coasted to the win.
