Caden Hodges shot a two-over par, 218, for the Low Medalist Award at Virginia State's Spring Classic Golf Tournament over the weekend. Fayetteville State finished second by five strokes at the Dogwood Trace Golf Course behind Livingstone. The Broncos scored 889 (+25) over three rounds.
Hodges birdied four holes to finish the first round tied for fifth with a +1, 73. He moved up the leaderboard a spot, after the following 18 holes, with five more birdies for an even-par, 72. Caden putted birdies on holes 17 and 18 of the final round for a 73 (+1) to outplay Virginia Union's Hayden Garcia by a stroke to earn honors. Livingstone's Ronald Otile finished two strokes trailing Hodges' 218.
Fayetteville State trailed Virginia Union and Livingstone, who was tied after 18 holes with 291 (+18) strokes. The Broncos finished 11 strokes behind with 302.
Livingstone took the lead after the second round with a 36-round score of 578. VUU had six strokes more than the Blue Bears and the Broncos collected 14 more than LC for the third spot.
FSU's four-scoring golfers picked up the pace for a final-round best of 297. Hodges went from third to first. He finished with a total of 13 birdies over the three rounds.
Jack McCarthy finished tied for fourth in the tournament with a 221 (+5) scorecard. He improved from two positions down after 11 birdies and an Eagle.
Brandon Jones made the biggest improvement moving from tenth to sixth with a 223 (+7).

Juan Lopez (who was playing as an individual) at 14 with +13 (229).
Virginia Union finished third overall with +26, 890. The Blue Bears had a card of 884, +20. Host Virginia State was fourth (968, +38) and Elizabeth City State fifth with a score of 1,135, +271.
Fayetteville State will take on CIAA opponents again at the CIAA Northern Division Tournament from April 3
