M’Smrya Seward Earns NCAA Indoor All-American Status at National Championships

Virginia Beach, VA – Fayetteville State's M'Smrya Seward earned a second NCAA DII Track & Field All-American honor this weekend at the 2023 NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships. Seward finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.93 meters (19-5 ¼) at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
 
Seward, the 2023 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Indoor Field Athlete of the Year and CIAA Championship field MVP, entered the competition ranked fourth with a personal best performance of 6.10m. She was second in the rotation of the second flight and hit the board on her first attempt to land 5.86m (19-2 ¾) into the pit. After a foul on her second attempt, M'Smrya jumped 5.57m and headed into finals ranked ninth.
 
In the finals, she hit 5.86m again and remained ninth with two more attempts. Seward soared to 5.93m on her fifth attempt and had a red flag in her final jump.
 
M'Smrya Seward first made the All-American list in 2022 when she finished second in the long jump at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships in Allendale, MI.
