ORANGEBURG, S.C. --The Fayetteville State volleyball team got the job done in straight sets (25-22, 25-21, 25-20) to beat the Claflin Panthers Monday on the road at Edward L Tullis Arena.

The win moved the Broncos' record to 9-10 overall and 6-1 in CIAA play.

Chiara Vittoni finished with 16 kills on the day to lead the Broncos offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .560. Defensively, the Broncos had two players reach double figures in digs as Jordan Johnson had 14 and Nikole Akamine had 11.

SET 1 | The Broncos survived a back-and-forth first set to win 25-22 in a stanza that featured five lead changes and was tied six times. Neither team led by more than four points in the match.

SET 2 | Fayetteville State carried momentum from a set-one win by securing a 25-21 victory in set two. The Broncos never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 16-15 in a set that showcased four lead changes before the Broncos took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 3 | Fayetteville State then sealed the sweep with a victory in set number three. The Broncos the set set three 25-20. Fayetteville State took the lead for good at 14-13 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Broncos took over in the second half of the stanza. The Broncos racked up 17 kills over the course of the set.

The volleyball team's next competition is Saturday, October 14 in Elizabeth City, NC for the CIAA Roundup. The first game on Saturday will be at 8am against Bluefield State. They will play Bowie State later that afternoon at 4pm.
