Baltimore, MD – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) introduced the 2022-23 All-CIAA Preseason Men's and Women's Basketball teams, as voted on by the CIAA Basketball Coaches Association and the Sports Information Directors Association. The preseason teams and predicted order were both unveiled during the CIAA Basketball Media Day in Baltimore, MD.
Fayetteville State's
Aniylah Bryant and
Rasheka Simmons were named to the women's preseason squad while
Cress Worthy made the men's team.
Bryant, a guard from Havelock, NC, was the second-best scorer for the Broncos last season with 13.4 points per game and ranked seventh in the conference. She was ninth in the CIAA with 33 made three-pointers.
Aniylah Bryant led the conference with 70 steals (2.9 per game).
Simmons, a native of Reynolds, Ga., was the team's leading scorer at 14.6 points per game as a forward. She ranked third in the conference in scoring and third in total steals (51). She was second in field goal percentages (44.3%) and made the second most free throws, with 90 made from 119 attempts (75.6%).
Rasheka Simmons has scored 20 or more points six times last season, along with a career-high 27 points.
Cress Worthy, a native of Gastonia, NC, was the second leading scorer for FSU and ranked sixth in the CIAA with 14.5 points per game, third with 54 three-pointers made, and fifth in the conference at assists (81). Worthy scored a season-best 28 points against Virginia State and has exceeded double-digit scoring in all but three games.
Fayetteville State will open the 2022-23 men's basketball season on November 2 with an exhibition game at Duke University and the regular-season opener in Bowie, MD. against East Stroudsburg. The women will travel to Shippensburg, PA on November 11 to play in the CIAA vs. PSAC Conference Challenge.
