FSU’s Seward and Johnson Earn NCAA All-American Status at NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Allendale, MI (May 28, 2022) - Fayetteville State's Outdoor Track and Field wrapped up a tremendous season with two team members earning NCAA All-American status at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships at Grand Valley State's Track and Field Stadium in Allendale, Michigan. M'Smrya Seward and Mya Johnson earned their recognition by finishing in the top-eight of their respective finals.

M'Srya Seward finished second in the finals of the long jump on Friday (May 27) with a career-best 6.22 meters (20'5"). Her participation at the nationals was a first for the junior dual-sport student-athlete, who also plays on the softball team. She will also go into the FSU record books with the highest finish at a national championship.

Mya Johnson, the CIAA Track Athlete of the Year, finished sixth in the finals of the 400-meter hurdles on Saturday (May 28) with a career-best time of 59.15 seconds from lane 2. Johnson eclipsed her previous career-best of 59.36, which was ran a day before (Friday) in the preliminaries. 

The team concludes its season with remarkable accomplishments in the first three years of the program's existence. They collected awards and recognition among the conference and captured their first CIAA conference title as Co-Champions with Winston-Salem State University.
