GAME 2 | Fayetteville State 10, Claflin 6
FAYETTEVILLE, NC --The Fayetteville State Broncos took a 6-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 10-6 win over the Claflin Panthers (15-13, 13-1 CIAA) on Friday. The Broncos victory breaks the Panthers 13-0 conference win-streak.
Braynka Brown (6-6) started in the circle and picked up the win for Fayetteville State (13-15, 8-4 CIAA). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up six runs, two earned, on six hits, allowing four walks and striking out one.
Grace Vincent led the way offensively for the Broncos, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a double and two RBI. Morgan Jackson compiled a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Angel Johnson also chipped in, going 3-for-4 for Fayetteville State.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Broncos got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Fayetteville State's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a two-run error off the bat of BreAnna Steele and a two-run double from Vincent.
The Panthers then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 6-2 until the Broncos expanded their advantage in the fourth. Mikayla Jackson came across to score the lone run of the inning for Fayetteville State, which brought the Broncos lead to 7-2.
Claflin narrowed Fayetteville State's lead to 7-4 before the Broncos stretched the advantage to 10-4 in the sixth inning. The Broncos put together a three-run frame, culminating in a run-scoring single from . Claflin put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Fayetteville State still coasted to the 10-6 win.
