Fayetteville, NC – The 2022 Fayetteville State University football schedule features six home contests and four road games as the Broncos prepare for a fifth consecutive appearance in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship game.
On September 3
rd, head football coach Richard Hayes and the Broncos will host UNC Pembroke under the lights in the Luther Nick Jeralds Stadium. The series' history against the Braves has proven to draw a crowd and some excitement. The first-ever game in 2009 ended in a triple-overtime win for UNCP in Fayetteville. The last time UNC Pembroke visited, it ended in a 14-10 game. This will be the ninth matchup in the rivalry.
On September 10
th, Fayetteville State will host another strong competitor in Wingate under the lights. The game will be the 8th meeting in Bronco history.
Fayetteville State will begin its drive to the CIAA Championship game on the road on September 17 in Lincoln, Pa. against the Lions of Lincoln University of Pennsylvania. Since 2008, FSU has won all six contests.
The Broncos will have home-field advantage against its next three opponents.
Virginia Union will visit on September 24
th. The Panthers lead the series 14-10-2 since the first meeting in 1974. Since 2000, FSU has won 9 out of the 16 games.
The final cross-divisional opponent, Chowan. will visit Fayetteville on October 1
st for the sixth time since 2008. FSU leads the series 6-4 and has won the last three contests. In the last meeting in 2019, the Broncos won homecoming 66-20.
FSU has selected Saint Augustine's as its 2022 homecoming opponent on October 8
th with a 2 pm kickoff time. Since the Falcons reinstated football in 2002, the Broncos have dominated the series 15-4.
The next two road games will be homecoming events with Livingstone hosting Fayetteville State on October 15
th and Johnson C. Smith on October 22
nd. The game against the Blue Bears will be the 69
th meeting with FSU holding the 44-21-3 advantage with two scores missing. The Golden Bulls matchup will be the 70
th meeting and a tied 33-33-3 series.
Fayetteville State will honor its seniors with the last home game of the season against Shaw on October 29
th. The Broncos dominated the series from 1929 through 1978 with a 12-4-5 record. Since Shaw revived the program in 2003, FSU has won 11 of the 15 games with seven consecutive victories.
Winston-Salem State will serve as the regular-season finale on November 5
th in the Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC. FSU was won three out of the last four games against the Rams en route to the CIAA Championship game.
The CIAA will host the 2022 football championship game at the Salem Stadium in Salem, Virginia on Saturday, November 12
th.
