FAYETTEVILLE, NC --The Fayetteville State men's basketball team ended a five-game losing skid and got a 46-point performance from the bench on the way to a 77-62 win against the South Carolina Aiken Pacers at home Saturday.
The Broncos (2-6) had four players score in double figures, led by Tyler Foster, who had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jacob Crutchfield tacked on a career-high 16 points off of the bench and Cress Worthy chipped in as well with 15 points, seven assists and two steals.
The Fayetteville State offense relied heavily on the three-pointer, pouring in nine threes on 27 attempts. Crutchfield hit three treys for the Broncos in the contest.
Fayetteville State forced 13 South Carolina Aiken turnovers while committing only eight themselves in Saturday's game. The Broncos turned those takeaways into 13 points on the offensive end of the floor. Worthy's two steals led the way for Fayetteville State.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 32-30 advantage, Fayetteville State went on a 6-0 run with 3:32 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Worthy, to increase its lead to 38-30. The Broncos then maintained that lead and entered halftime with a 43-35 advantage. Fayetteville State got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 21 of its 43 total points.
Following intermission, Fayetteville State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 65-53 before going on a 10-0 run, finished off by Foster's jumper, to grow the lead to 75-53 with 1:30 to go in the contest. The Pacers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Broncos still cruised the rest of the way for the 77-62 win. Fayetteville State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 25 of its 34 total points.
