FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. --The Fayetteville State men's basketball team is on a two-game win streak after shooting 52 percent from three-point range on the way to a 72-52 victory over the Methodist Monarchs on the road Sunday in the Riddle Center.
The Broncos (3-6 overall) had three players score in double figures, led by Tyler Foster, who had a career-high18 points and two steals. Cress Worthy tacked on 14 points, eight rebounds and two steals and Kaleb Coleman chipped in as well with 10 points and three steals.
Foster, who is a transfer junior guard from Youngstown State, had two previous games this season with 16 points. Before becoming a Bronco, Tyler scored as many as 12 in 2018. Today's performance is his eighth double-figure game in his career.Â
The Fayetteville State offense was impressive from deep, making 13 threes on 25 attempts. Foster hit four treys for the Broncos in the contest. Coleman followed with three.
Fayetteville State forced 17 Methodist turnovers. The Broncos turned those takeaways into 19 points on the offensive end of the floor. Coleman's three steals led the way for Fayetteville State.
How It Happened
After falling behind 11-9, Fayetteville State went on a 10-0 run with 9:32 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Sean Tony Hauser, to take a 19-11 lead. The Broncos then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 32-22 advantage. Fayetteville State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down five shots to account for 15 of its 32 points.
Following intermission, Fayetteville State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 54-42 before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Worthy's layup, to grow the lead to 62-42 with 5:44 to go in the contest. The Broncos held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 72-52 win. Fayetteville State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting eight shots from deep to score 24 of its 40 points.
