Broncos Splits Doubleheader with Elizabeth City State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Elizabeth City, NC – Fayetteville State University travel to Elizabeth City, North Carolina on Thursday, March 25, and returned with a 1-1 softball record against the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University.
 
The Broncos (1-5 overall) defeated ECSU 6-2 in the first of the doubleheader for its first win of the season. The 8-7 Viking victory was by way of a walk-off double by the Vikings Cheyan Brasseur. Fayetteville State is now 1-5 in conference play and has the identical record as Elizabeth City State.
 
Fayetteville State held the Vikings scoreless through the first four innings and scored five unanswered runs in the fifth inning.
 
FSU led 7-0 in the second game until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Vikings scored their first point.  Elizabeth City State closed the gap to trail by three with a three-run triple in the fifth inning. A two-run homer by Kali Flanagan had the Vikings down 7-6 going into the seventh and final inning of the doubleheader. In a bases-loaded situation after a scoreless outing for the Broncos, ECSU's Brasseur nailed a double that would allow the winning two base runners to cross home.
 
Fayetteville State will host Elizabeth City State for the final two games of the series on Sunday, March 28 in the Lamon Street Park at 1 and 3 pm. Fans are welcomed but encouraged to practice social distancing and wear masks at all times. Interactions with players are forbidden.
