Fayetteville, NC - The Fayetteville State Department of Athletics had 24 student-athletes graduate at the 2016 Spring Commencement Ceremony held Saturday, May 7th at the Crown Coliseum Complex. There were six student-athletes to graduate with honors.

FSU football once again had the largest number of graduates with nine student-athletes crossing the stage. Men's basketball had five graduates. Women's basketball graduated three student-athletes, followed by volleyball and women's tennis with two. Bowling, softball and cheerleading each had one graduate.

A total of 745 students received diplomas at the 149th Spring Commencement for Fayetteville State University

Rhodes Scholar and North Carolina native Robyn Hadley served as the keynote speaker for the ceremony. Hadley, founder and executive director of the "What's After High School?" program in Burlington, NC, is the associate vice chancellor and director of the prestigious John B. Ervin Scholars Program at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. She has been recognized by the White House and U.S. Department of Education for her work in preparing students for success after high school, Hadley began her duties at Washington University in 2014. In that role, she is only the second director of the more than a quarter century-old scholars program.

FSU Chancellor James A. Anderson presided over the commencement ceremony. Anderson, in his eighth year as Chancellor, is the university's 11th chief executive officer.

Founded in 1867, FSU is the second-oldest public institution in North Carolina. It offers nearly 60 degrees in the arts, sciences, business, and education at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. It serves a student body of more than 6,100 students and has a faculty and staff of approximately 800.
