Fayetteville, NC ââ'¬" The Fayetteville State University women's softball team demolished Livingstone College in both games (16-0|19-1) of a CIAA Southern Divisional doubleheader on Monday, April 18th at the Lamon Street Park Blue Field. FSU improves to 17-17 overall and 9-3 in the CIAA.
The Lady Broncos wasted no time before gaining an early advantage over Livingstone. Senior outfielder Alex Wickham (Fayetteville, NC) hit a RBI single to center to bring home senior outfielder Shae Barnes (Gibson, NC). FSU poured on an avalanche in the second inning to virtually put the game out of reach.
Fayetteville State produced six hits and nine runs in the second for a 10-0 lead after two innings. Junior pitcher Kyrin Walker (Carthage, NC) allowed no runs in the contest. Walker had a no-hitter until the fourth inning. Precious Roberts had the only hit for Livingstone in the top of the fourth.
FSU added one run in the third and five runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Lady Blue Bears faced a 16-0 deficit entering the fifth inning. The contest concluded after the top of the fifth due to the NCAA eight-run rule.
Walker faced 16 at-bats with nine strikeouts in just five innings. Wickham had team-highs of three hits and three RBIs in game one.
FSU continued the onslaught in game two. Livingstone trailed 9-0 after the first three innings. Sophomore pitcher Carley Green (Fayetteville, NC) only allowed one hit within the initial three innings. Roberts collected the only run of the afternoon for Livingstone with a homerun at the top of the fourth.
The Lady Broncos retaliated with six hits and 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth. Game two concluded with a 19-1 victory for FSU after five innings. Green recorded the win with seven strikeouts and only four hits and one run.
Junior third baseman HaLee Knowles (Wallace, NC) had a team-high three hits, along with two RBIs and two runs scored in game two. Wickham had four runs scored and three RBIs.
Fayetteville State returns to action on Saturday, April 23rd against Shaw University in Raleigh, NC. First pitch in the road divisional doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
