Final Stats
FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Fayetteville State softball team wrapped up an impressive day at the plate with a 9-0 victory over the Lincoln (PA) Lions on Thursday afternoon during the CIAA Round-Up held at Arnette Park. The Lady Broncos recorded eight hits as a team as Spencer Embler (Jr., Thomasville, NC) led the effort with a perfect 3-for-3 performance. Embler also made her mark on the mound pitching her second complete game shutout of the day.
Fayetteville State scored all nine of its runs in the first three innings against Lincoln (PA) starting pitcher Danielle Owes. The Lady Broncos opened the game with a four-run first inning sparked by a two RBI single by Ashley Wlezen (Sr., Charlotte, NC). Embler drove in both runs with her double down the left field line in the second; and added an RBI single off the left field wall in the third. She led Fayetteville State on the afternoon with three hits and a season-high four RBI.
Embler added to her offensive feat by tossing her second consecutive complete game shutout of the day. She earned her second win of the season by allowing just two hits, two walks and eight strikeouts. On the day, Embler pitched 11.0 scoreless innings and gave up just five hits, walked three and struck out 18.
Owes took the loss for the Lions after allowing nine runs on eight hits, eight walks and one strikeout. Emily Woodruff collected both hits for Lincoln (PA).
FSU returns to action on Friday, Mar. 22 when it faces the Shaw Bears in a non-conference game at 12 p.m. and Bloomsburg at 2 p.m. In the first matchup of the day, Shaw will face Lincoln (PA) at 10 a.m. All three games will be played at Arnette Park.
