LADY BRONCOS TO HONOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville State Lady Broncos' softball team will honor Breast Cancer Awareness at their next home game on Wednesday.

The Lady Broncos will don pink jerseys for the doubleheader against Livingstone while the Fayetteville State coaching staff will wear pink wristbands.

Wear pink to the game to show your support of Breast Cancer Awareness and for the Lady Broncos, who picked up another league win at Johnson C. Smith on Sunday.

Maya Washington and Jessica Randolph each had a pair of hits and three RBI as Fayetteville State split a doubleheader with the Golden Bulls, winning Game 1 11-6 before falling 5-2 in the second game.

Ashley Wlezen (Jr., Charlotte, N.C.) added a hit and two RBI in the victory while Lashanda Washington (So., Hope Mills, N.C.), Sencerae Locklear (Fr., Fairmont, N.C.) and Clarissa Pitts (Fr., Hope Mills, N.C.) each drove in a run. Nia Trawick (So., Fayetteville, N.C.) had two hits and scored runs. Randolph (So., Pinetops, N.C.) and Maya Washington (So., Red Springs, N.C.) scored two runs apiece as well.

Tia Caldwell (Fr., Newport, N.C.) picked up her third win of the season after scattering six runs - five earned - on six hits in the complete game . Caldwell, who is averaging better than a strikeout per inning for the season, fanned six.

In the second game, the Lady Broncos (6-33, 6-6) pounded out 11 hits but stranded 10 on base, getting a 3-for-3 effort from Sierra Henderson-Holmes (Fr., Olivia, N.C.), who returned to the lineup for the first time after suffering a knee injury several weeks ago. Lashanda Washington added two hits while Randolph, Locklear, Wlezen, Zaonna Mackey (Fr., Charlotte, N.C.) and Kalneisha Drawhorn (Fr., Rowland, N.C.) each had one hit.

Johnson C. Smith fell to 13-22 overall and 5-7 in the CIAA.

Fayetteville State hosts Southern Division foe Livingstone at 2 and 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
