Final Stats
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Pace Setters remained unbeaten to start the season after picking up a pair of wins over Fayetteville State in softball on Tuesday.
Pace won the first game 8-0 in five innings but needed to rally to defeat the Lady Broncos 9-4 in the second game.
Fayetteville State (3-24) rallied itself from an early deficit in the second game, scoring three runs in the third inning to take a 4-2 lead. The big blow came from Clarissa Pitts (Fr., Hope Mills, N.C.), who smacked a two-run double to left-center field to plate two runs.
But Pace (6-0) came right back with three runs in the top of the fourth, using a Chelsea Shea double and two and a Fayetteville State error to string together three runs and build a 7-4 lead.
Maya Washington (So., Red Springs, NC), who broke up Kayla Hill's perfect game bid with a single in the fourth inning of Game 1, had two hits in the second game while Jessica Randolph (So., Pinetops, NC) and Sierra Henderson-Holmes (Fr., Olivia, NC) each had a hit in the second game.
Fayetteville State hosts Mansfield at 2 and 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
