LADY BRONCOS SCORE FIRST WIN EVER OVER CHOWAN

March 10, 2012

Final Stats

RALEIGH, N.C. - The rise of the Fayetteville State Lady Broncos' softball season continues.

For the first time in school history, the Lady Broncos handed the Chowan Hawks a loss in softball following a 7-2 win on the second day of the CIAA Roundup on Saturday at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex.

Fayetteville State, which earned its first win of the season with a dominating 8-0 victory over Lincoln on Friday night, came back with a thorough win over the Hawks, who reached the CIAA Championship final a year ago.

Rebecca Polaschek picked up the victory on the rubber, scattering six hits in seven complete innings while allowing two runs - none earned - to pick up the win.

Shaniqua Edwards had two hits to pace the Lady Broncos at the plate, who used four Chowan errors to bury the Hawks. Maya Washington, Jessica Randolph, Kalneisha Drawhorn and Sacari Miller had one hit apiece for Fayetteville State (2-20, 2-2), which won for the second time in its last four games.

The Lady Broncos also dropped a 3-0 decision to Virginia State on Saturday, and will conclude the roundup with two games on Sunday.
