JCSU HANDS BRONCOS SEASON-ENDING LOSS

April 16, 2010

Final Stats

PETERSBURG, VA - Fayetteville State's season came to an end on Friday after a 5-3 loss to Johnson C. Smith in the CIAA Tournament. FSU finished the season 17-21.

JCSU scored one run in the first inning, three in the second and one in the fourth to take a commanding 5-0 lead.

However, the reigning CIAA Runner-Up Broncos wouldn't go down without a fight.

After a double by senior Tracey Brighter (Spring Lake, NC), sophomore Misty Huber (Orlando, FL) reached base on an error by the Golden Bulls' shortstop. Brighter eventually scored FSU's first run of the game.

Following singles by freshmen Rita Diaz (Fayetteville, NC) and Ashley Wlezen (Charlotte, NC), Demetree Benton (Charlotte, NC) drove in Diaz to make the score 5-2. Benton would later score after an error on JCSU's second baseman, giving FSU it's third and final run of the inning.

In her final game at FSU, Brighter had three of the Broncos' seven hits. Right fielder LaTonia Gatling (Suffolk, VA), Diaz, Wlezen and Lugenia Beatty (Atkinson, NC) had one hit each for FSU.

Huber, who started in both of FSU's games on Friday, allowed four earned runs in six innings and struck out five JCSU batters.

In addition to Brighter, seniors Donieca Ebron (Belhaven, NC) and Shahiree Covington (Scotland County, NC) played their last game at FSU.
