PETERSBURG, VA - Fayetteville State won its first game in the CIAA Tournament loser's bracket, topping Virginia State 4-1.

The Broncos will face Johnson C. Smith today at 12:30 p.m. The winner will advance to play the loser of the Chowan-Bowie State game.

Sophomore pitcher Misty Huber (Orlando, FL) threw a complete-game, four-hitter for the Broncos.

She struck out four Trojans batters and allowed just one earned run.

The Broncos scored all four of their runs in the first inning.

With right fielder LaTonia Gatling (Suffolk, VA) and Demarius Pankey (Laurinburg, NC) on second and third base, first baseman April Branch (Pender, NC) ripped a two-RBI double down the left field line giving FSU a 2-0 lead.

Two batters later Huber singled scoring Branch. Huber would later score on a VSU throwing error to give FSU a 4-0 lead it wouldn't relinquish.

Gatling led FSU with two hits, while Branch finished with two RBI's.
