FAYETTEVILLE - Sophomores Lugenia Beatty (Atkinson, NC) and April Branch (Pender, NC) combined for 17 RBI and helped the Fayetteville State softball team sweep a doubleheader, 25-2, 11-0, over Livingstone on Wednesday.

Misty Huber, a sophomore native of Orlando, FL, pitched FSU (9-15, 2-3 CIAA) to both wins and improved to 3-9 on the season.

In the first game, FSU scored nine first-inning runs and 12 second-inning runs to lead 21-1 heading into the top of the third.

During the first inning all nine FSU starters -- Branch, Beatty, freshman Demetree Benton (Charlotte, NC) Demarius Pankey (Laurinburg, NC), Ashley Wlezen (Charlotte, NC), Huber, Rita Diaz (Fayetteville, NC) and Doniecia Ebron (Belhaven, NC) -- crossed home plate.

Branch laced a three RBI double down the left field line in the middle of second inning and Beatty later hit a bases-clearing triple down the left field line to spur on FSU.

The Broncos added three in the third and one in the fourth.

Gatling and Benton had three RBI each in the first game, while Wlezen and Diaz both tallied two RBI. Diaz and Benton scored four runs and Gatling and Beatty scored three times.

Gatling and Branch scored runs in the first inning of the second game to give FSU a 2-0 lead early in the contest.

After Gatling reached on an error, she advanced to second on a passed ball and stole third before Branch hit a RBI single to left field. Branch later scored after a RBI single to center field by Wlezen.

Ashley Vann's (San Antonio, TX) RBI single to center field drove in Shahiree Covington (Scotland County, NC) to start the scoring in the second inning. Branch's two RBI double helped give the Broncos four runs in the inning.

FSU scored four in the third inning and one in the fourth.

Branch and Wlezen had two hits each. Vann, Wlezen and Beatty added two RBI while Branch contributed four.

Huber allowed only one earned run and struck out 10 in the two games.
