Final Stats

FAYETTEVILLE - Tracey Brighter pitched a complete game two-hitter to help Fayetteville State (3-3) split a doubleheader with St. Andrews (1-4) on Friday.

Brighter struck out a season-high 11 batters against the Knights and yielded only two walks in FSU's 1-0 win.

The Broncos scored the winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning. After rightfielder LaTonia Gatling reached on a fielders choice, the Suffolk, Va. native stole second base.

The throw by Knights' catcher Lex Cowger was too much for second baseman Kaitlin Harris to handle and allowed FSU's Demetree Benton, who was on third, to score the game's only run.

Brighetr was 2-of-3 at the plate and had both of FSU's hits in the contest.

In the second game, FSU led 2-0 heading into the fourth inning thanks to a two-RBI hit by Brighter.

However, in the top of the fourth the Knights batted around scoring five runs on six hits to gain a 5-2 lead they would stretch out to an 11-4 victory.

Four Broncos -- Brighter, Rita Siaz, Shahiree Covington and Misty Huber -- had hits in the game.

In the two games, Brigher amassed four hits and two RBI at the plate and 12 strikeouts from the mound.

Gatling, Diaz, first baseman April Branch and Brighter scored runs for FSU in the loss.

FSU will host Concord for a doubleheader on Sunday. First pitches are set for 2 and 4 p.m.
