Laurinburg, NC - Fayetteville State (2-8 overall) lost a pair of softball games in Laurinburg, NC to regional rival St. Andrews Presbyterian College (3-3 overall). The Lady Broncos managed two hits in the first game as three athletes reached first base in an 8-0 loss in six innings. Down 3-0 in the second game, FSU sparked a late rally in the top of the seventh inning to score two runs but grounded out to end the game with its eighth loss of the season.
Fayetteville State struggled with getting a hit in the first game until Alicia Frank (Sophia, NC) hit a double to right center in the fourth inning. Already at two outs, the next batter flew out to right field for the third out. In the top of the sixth, Dominique Mills (senior - Williamston, NC) singled on a bunt but was out in a double play with the next batter. The Lady Broncos went to bat 19 times with two hits and five strike outs. Frank (1-2 overall) threw three strike outs but walked one. The team committed four errors and gave up nine hits for the game.
The Lady Broncos held tight in the second game. The Lady Knights were hitless until third baseman Danyell Marquez (Riverside, Calif.) smashed a homer to left center to go up by one. SAPC returned in the third inning with two hits and one more run. In the sixth inning, the Lady Knights mustarded three hits increased its lead to 3-0.
Fayetteville State had three hits at this point and zero errors. Mills doubled to right center at two outs in the seventh inning to score the two runs for the Lady Broncos. The next batter grounded out to the second baseman to end the game.
Fayette State will host Barton College on Wednesday at Seabrook Park. The double-header will begin at 2:00 pm.
